Fans share footage of controversial moment they were denied ‘clear penalty’

MAN UTD supporters are convinced Ruben Amorim's side should have been awarded a penalty in Sunday's match against Liverpool.

The Red Devils fought back to a 2-2 draw against the Premier League leaders on a soaked Anfield.

Lisandro Martinez gave the visitors the lead on Merseyside just after half-time.

Cody Gakpo equalized for the Reds shortly afterwards, before United centre-back Matthijs De Ligt was adjudged to have handled in the area.

Liverpool's Mo Salah stepped up to convert the penalty, but eagle-eyed United fans were convinced they should have taken a penalty themselves later.

Shortly afterwards, trailing 2-1, Amad Diallo provided a wonderful cross after a short corner exercise.

As United players attacked the throw, the ball appeared to hit Liverpool's Ryan Gravenberch on the arm as he struggled with Rasmus Hojlund.

There were big calls from United players and fans in the ground, but the Reds managed to scramble the ball clear.

Sky Sports cameras did not replay the incident, with VAR also dismissing the claim and not following up with referee Michael Oliver.

One fan raged at “

Another claimed: “If this match had been fair we would have won.”

A third added: “Handball or not? It could have been a penalty for United but was missed again by VAR despite calls from United players.”

And a fourth argued: “These inconsistencies are the problem, they haven't even been checked.”

But a fifth replied: “I'm clearly biased, but that's clearly Hojlund's hand IMO. I'm not sure what you're seeing.”

Despite not conceding a penalty, United leveled matters late through Diallo to get a point back at the M62.

After the match, goalscoring hero Martinez gave an honest assessment of the Red Devils' recent form.

And he claimed the hard-fought draw could be a turning point in United's stuttering season.

Martinez told the BBC: “Today we have changed the mentality, the belief and the confidence.

“I saw everyone today confidently safe, in every game, with the ball, defensively.

“We really enjoyed the match today.

“Sometimes when we had the ball a few games ago we were stressed, we thought too much and today we played without feelings.

“If you play like that, you can enjoy football.”
