‘Fantastic’ Leverkusen only missing a goal against Bayern, says Alonso

Bayer Leverkusen played an almost perfect game in their 0-0 draw against Bayern Munich on Saturday and the only thing was missing was a goal to crown that “fantastic” version, said coach Xabi Alonso.

The champions took control from the start and hit the woodwork halfway through the first half, giving the visitors little breathing space with their high -urgent competition.

Since OPTA data collection started in 2004-05, Leverkusen is one of only two teams that did not admit any shot at Target against Bayern in a Bundesliga match.

Only Wolfsburg had previously reached that performance in May 2008.

“We feel that we have played a fantastic game,” Alonso told a press conference. “The way we played is our best match against Bayern this year, even last year.

“We have done almost everything well, but we missed the goal. We have created enough opportunities.

“A fantastic version. The other part is the result, with which we are not so happy. But that is football.

Leverkusen did not succeed in reducing Bayern in the title race in the eight -pointed lead of Bayern, but Alonso does not believe that their hope for retaining the crown is over.

“There are still many points to play for,” said Alonso. “We are still in all three competitions.”

Bayern -coach Vincent Kompany meanwhile greeted the defensive organization of his team when he said: “Today they deserved the right to have the ball.

“They pressed very well, so we had to defend. I have to give my team a huge compliment.”

Bayern, who was in action in the midweek with a 2-1 win over Celtic in the play-off round of the Champions League in Glasgow, had no effort of a description for more than 70 minutes, despite the fact that they are 65 goals in Had delivered 21 league games in 21 league matches prior to Saturday.

“This is a point for us that we can take home and concentrate on the next game,” said Kompany.

“Today they deserved the right to put us under pressure. They have done everything well. We will certainly learn from this game.”
