Father Time Remains Undefeated Mike Tyson vs Jake Paul
On Friday evening, November 15, Most Valuable Promotions hosted a massive event at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, as 27-year-old YouTuber turned boxer Jake Paul defeated former two-time world heavyweight champion “Iron” Mike Tyson by unanimous decision.
The strategic execution regarding the build-up and marketing of this fight was effective. Millions of fans watched Netflix hoping to see a vintage, ferocious Mike Tyson, but instead saw a path past his premier Hall of Fame fighter struggling to close the distance.
The clash between Mike Tyson and Jake Paul was initially scheduled to take place on July 20, but two months prior to the fight, Tyson experienced a health issue. During a flight from Miami to Los Angeles, Tyson suffered a flare-up of a stomach ulcer.
Tyson suffered from nausea, felt light-headed and vomited blood in the airplane bathroom. After being treated at the hospital, Tyson's doctor advised him to take a few weeks off from training. Due to the flare-up of Tyson's ulcer, his fight against Jake Paul was postponed and rescheduled for November 15.
When Mike Tyson resumed his training, the red flags popped up, but the hardcore Tyson fans ignored them. For example, instead of posting extensive clips of Tyson's training, his team posted small snippets of the training sessions.
This did not sit well with the group of people who were critical of the Tyson vs. Paul fight, as they wanted to watch an extended video to get an idea of the 58-year-old Tyson's endurance. Another annoying red flag was the absence of sparring.
Once again, the critics of the Tyson vs. Paul fight wanted to see Tyson spar and observe how he reacts to having an active opponent in front of him. Tyson's sparring video appeared a week before the fight, but in the video, Tyson's sparring partner made no attempt to throw a punch.
Expectations were high on fight night as celebrities and a large number of boxing fans filed into AT&T Stadium. When Mike Tyson walked to the ring in his prime, it was an intimidating sight, but when Tyson walked to the ring on the night of November 15, he got grandpa vibes.
Despite the fact that the ring looked different, it felt like 1988 when Tyson entered the ring, but after the first round, fight fans quickly came to realize that this is 2024. In the opening round, Tyson charged forward in an attempt to land something big. .
Once Tyson was in, Jake Paul continued the grappling and grappling. As the referee separated the two fighters, Paul used his jab as he circled the ring. Later in the opening round, fight fans got excited when Tyson landed a left-right combination.
As the match progressed, Jake Paul controlled the fight with movement, using his jab and occasionally throwing with his right hand. In Mike Tyson's mind, he wanted to take the fight to Paul, but his body failed him. Tyson stood on tired legs, meaning the 58-year-old was unable to cover the distance.
A stunned crowd at AT&T Stadium watched as they witnessed the iconic Mike Tyson in the ring, looking like a shell of his former self. Meanwhile, Jake Paul continued to execute his game plan, cruising to a unanimous decision victory.
After the fight, many celebrities voiced their opinions on social media. Some wondered why the fight was allowed to happen, and others were angry at Jake Paul. WBA Lightweight World Champion Gervonta “Tank” Davis posted:
“To the bozo who shared the ring with Mike… you're a total bozo for this, and you didn't get the job done, damn it…”
Mike Tyson will always be an iconic boxing legend and this loss to Jake Paul won't tarnish his mystique. The Tyson vs. Paul fight was a cash grab that was painful to watch as we once again witness the fact that no matter how great an athlete you were during your prime, Father Time is undefeated.
