FC Cincinnati hopeful of signing Bayern Munich great Muller

FC Cincinnati's Co-chief Executive Jeff Berding says that the club has offered a contract to Thomas Muller from Bayern Munich.

The German, who spent his entire career at Bayern, will leave the club at the end of the club World Cup when his contract ends.

Muller has made 752 performances for Bayern in all competitions and scored 250 goals for the club during his shimmering 17-year spell with the first team.

He is Bayern's record performances of all time and wins 13 Bundesliga titles and two championships.

Muller was on goal for Bayern in their opening club World Cup game, twice in their 10-0 routing Auckland City in Cincinnati's TQL Stadium.

Cincinnati has Muller's discovery rights and gives them the first refusal to negotiate with him if he wants to move to MLS, and Barding is hopeful that the 35-year-old will choose to make the switch to Ohio.

“We made him a good offer, we had several discussions with his advisers,” Berding told Bilding. “In the end he has many options.

“We respect when he and his advisers are looking for something else. That is part of the football business.

“It's not over until he signs at another club. We know this is his farewell trip [at the Club World Cup] With Bayern Munich, and he will then decide what to do.

“We also know what we have here: a large stadium, a good atmosphere and great circumstances. Who knows what will happen in the end?

“We are a club with a great German history and we are able to win titles. Thomas is a winner; he has won a lot. We think he would suit us very well.”
