Rio Ferdinand has broken his silence on a fear of health that he admitted to hospital for a few days and saw him miss Mrs. Punditry obligation for the second legs of the recent European semi-final.
The issue that Mail Sport understands also met other members of the Ferdinand family, resulted in the former defender of Manchester United who underwent a brain scan and received an ambulance.
In anticipation of the defeat of Arsenal by Paris Saint-Germain in the second stage of their European collision, Ferdinand shared a selfie from his hospital bed with one thumb up. He explained that he would miss the game before he would also turn the Manchester United home game against Athletic Bilbao on Thursday.
Ferdinand has been a fixed part of the European coverage of TNT in recent years and has often been a co-commentator for the games of United. Robbie Savage came to Darren Fletcher in Old Trafford, with Martin Keown also in the week.
Although his employers wished him the best, Ferdinand was reluctant about his situation and only spoke about it this week when he opened in the last episode of Rio Ferdinand Presents.
The 46-year-old went into detail about how he struggled in his bed, vomited and was in the hospital for a few days before he went home.
“My wife, the women in my family, will never know … flu man,” he jokes first. “That's what really matters, man flu.
He then continued: 'I had a crazy virus, Bro. I thought lights were off at some point, I thought it would happen. I thought I was minutes away from Lights Out, seriously.
'I was in my house, I was so in my bed [pained expression] And I couldn't even open my eyes.
'Then, the headache I had … I don't get a migraine or nothing else, so I don't know how they are. I thought my head was in a vice and my eyes would jump out.
'Then I was sick, projectile vomiting in the toilet, I came back to bed and I had dizziness. I held the sheets, I didn't know where I was. It was crazy. '
Ferdinand then went to the hospital and revealed that he panicked when the doctor called a brain scan and offered him an ambulance.
He was good enough to post on social media from his hospital bed – sharing a selfie and giving his opinion about the PSG penalty was awarded against Arsenal – but took no risk with an early exit.
“I had to go to the hospital and the doctor even said to me,” Do you want an ambulance “?” He went on. “So then I knew.”
“He went:” We're going to have your brain scanned. ” I thought it was a virus or a flu or something, so when he called the brain scan and the ambulance, the panic was crazy.
'I went to the hospital and I was there for a few days. I couldn't even enjoy the hospital food. The soup and the ice normally works wonders. '
Ferdinand was the last part of TNT Sports's report about the 1-0 victory of Aston Villa over Fulham in Birmingham last Saturday, but was able to return to screens this weekend.
The former defender received some criticism of his commentary during the dramatic quarterfinals Comeback victory of United last month against Lyon, where the legendary broadcaster Clive Tyldsley claimed that Ferdinand and Robbie Savage are celebrating the late goals of the Red Devils, comparable to a Fankanaal.
The representatives of TNT Sports and Ferdinand were approached for comment.
