Rio Ferdinand has advised the wrestling of Manchester United striker Rasmus Hojlund after the star of £ 72 million had drawn negative headlines after his performance against wolves.
The Danish attacker, who last year scored 10 league goals in his debut Premier League season after arrival from Atalanta, only won this campaign three times in the 28 league games.
The 22-year-old was replaced after 70 minutes after a new fruitless display in the 1-0 house loss of Manchester United against Wolves on Sunday.
His performance led to Match of the Day Pundit Alan Shearer who 'damaged' him in a stabbing review of where Hojlund is now,
But Ferdinand, who won six league titles and the Champions League in a 12-year spell at United, has given Hojlund advice and told him that he must 'simplify' his game and 'comic' back to his strengths.
Speaking at the Rio present podcast, the expert said: “He must get the winger and say:” This is what I need. If you are in these positions, this is what I would like. “
He added: 'Let's take it back. Put yourself in positions to show your best attributes. At the moment we see far too much of your weakest attributes.
'You have to free yourself from every contact and start running.
'That is the only big thing I would say to every player who struggles for trust. Strip it back, simplify and do what you brought there.
Former United -midfielder Owen Hargreaves added: 'I think the moments you see struggling is when his back is to play. So don't always place yourself in that place, turn.
'The man is one of the fastest players in Europe.
“The problem is that he is caught all the time, he takes too many touches.
Hargreaves said that the wrestling striker should model itself on Barcelona Vooruit Robert Lewandowski.
Hojlund was criticized after Sunday's defeat and was 'damaged' by the Premier League legend Alan Shearer.
“I look at a damaged player in Hojlund,” said Shearer on match of the day 2. “I think he was not ready and is not ready to lead the line in a club like Manchester United.
'Three Premier League goals, and at the moment I see a player who doesn't really want to go there.
The Manchester United season reached another low when they lost their 15th league match against Wolves, despite a stunning comeback against Lyon three days earlier.
A free-kick from Pablo Sarabia won the visitors after Hojlund had been removed.
With five more games, Ruben Amorim's side is in the 14th, only two points above the 17th placed West Ham, and are the sixth lowest scorers of the competition.
