FFP preventing Barcelona from finalising agreement with defender

In recent weeks, Barcelona has done well to bind various important players to new contracts, and more similarities are coming. Earlier this week, Pau Cubarsi joined Ronald Araujo, Pedri and Gavi to commit his future to the Catalan giants, and soon movements will be made to complete terms with Lamine Yamal and Raphinha.

A player who is part of the “renewal plan” of the club is Inigo Martinez. The veteran defender has had an excellent season so far and with his current contract that expires at the end of June, work is already being done to ensure that he extends his stay with another 12 months.

Martinez is close to activating an automatic one -year expansion clause in his contract, but before that comes into force, Barcelona has worked to match a renewal to prevent a danger. The process is practically finished, the completion stops by Financial Fair Play, according to Marca.

The innovations of Araujo, Pedri, Gavi and Cubarsi have left very little room in the salary account of Barcelona and as a result there is not enough for the renewal of Martinez. It means that you started to crawl indoors, which is the latter that club officials need.

Due to the situation, Barcelona is currently working on different formulas to ensure that the new deal from Martinez will be registered with La Liga, so that he can play without problems. League officials have been informed of the situation and regular contact is underway.

It makes perfect sense for Barcelona to keep Martinez's services for at least one season. He has been an excellent artist besides Cubarsi in the center of defense, and despite the fact that he has come in the last years of his career, he still looks as sharp as always.
