On July 3, Diogo Jota died tragically at the age of 28 in a car accident. The next day, FIFA announced that a moment of silence will be observed prior to all FIFA Club World Cup Quarterfinals in honor of the late Liverpool and Portugal Vooruit.
In addition, FIFA confirmed that flags at the head office in Zurich, Switzerland, will be flown at half-mast to pay tribute to Jota and his brother André, who also lost his life in the accident.
