Firmino unable to play in Saudi Pro League after being dropped from Al-Ahli

Former Liverpool star Roberto Firmino cannot play for Al-Ahli during the rest of their Saudi Pro League campaign.

Firmino, 33, has scored five goals this season in 17 league games for the Jeddah club and has worn the Captain's bracelet several times.

However, he recently fell from the Pro League Squad list of the club to make room for signing Galeno in January.

Saudi clubs may only have a maximum of 10 foreign players in their Pro League squadrons and Galeno, such as Firmino, is Brazilian.

Galeno came to Al-Ahli from Porto at the end of last month for a fee in the £ 42 million region.

“It was a difficult decision for the club and based on the rules,” explained Al-Ahli manager Matthias Jaissle.

Jaissle added on Firmino: 'We appreciate him and he has treated it professionally. He is still one of our leaders. '

Although he is excluded from Al-Ahli's last 15 Pro League matches this season, Firmino is still eligible to play in the AFC Champions League.

Al-Ahli has won six of their opening of seven games in Champions League Group B, making them guarantee a place in the knockout phase.

However, Firmino may be tempted to leave Al-Ahli before the end of the current campaign.

His contract was not to be canceled until June 2026, but Al-Ahli may be open to the idea of releasing him early if he finds a suitable new club.
