Flick keen to regain LaLiga momentum, helped by Christensen return

Hansi Flick is determined to get Barcelona back on track in LaLiga and confirmed they have been boosted by the return of Andreas Christensen.

The defender has been out of action since August due to an Achilles injury and has made just one appearance in all competitions for Barcelona this season.

Flick's side dropped to third in LaLiga after suffering two consecutive defeats last month, but have started 2025 in strong form.

They have won four straight games in the domestic cups, progressed to the quarter-finals of the Copa del Rey and also won the Supercopa de Espana title by beating Real Madrid last Sunday.

Flick will now be keen to build on that momentum in LaLiga, with Getafe next in the competition.

“We have taken a step forward in the last few games… I am very happy with the team,” Flick told reporters.

“Now we only have three injuries, and Inigo [Martinez] won't be around for long. We have that too [Marc] Bernal and [Marc-Andre] ter Stegen. But Christensen is back and that's good news.”

However, Flick admitted that striker Ansu Fati, who has been at the club since he was 10, could be on his way out. The 22-year-old has made just one start in the league this season.

“For me it's important to be honest with the players. I was honest with him. It's his decision,” Flick said.

“We talked about the options he has. If he wants to stay, fine… we will take care of him. Maybe he can go back to how we want him to be.”

'Let him talk to me and we'll see what his chances are. Depending on what he tells me, I will be honest and tell him the truth.'

Barcelona have drawn against Getafe (all 0-0) in their last three visits to the Coliseum in LaLiga. Never in their entire league history have the Blaugrana had four consecutive goalless draws away from home against a single opponent.

Flick's side will be looking to avoid a third straight defeat in LaLiga, something Barcelona have not done since April 2016 under Luis Enrique, and the German expects a tough match against 15th-placed Getafe, who will win on aggregate is on a three-game streak. competitions.

“It is difficult to score in Getafe. We have talked about it with the team and hopefully our plan will work,” he added.
