Barcelona have done quite a bit of research in recent weeks, after starting the season on fire but then playing themselves to the brink of the title race after just one win in seven games. Manager Hansi Flick and sporting director Deco are investigating the causes.
According to Diario AS, Deco met with Flick and some of the captains to try to find the causes of their breakdown, gathering information on their physical, tactical and mental state along the way. His efforts are focused on diagnosing the problems, knowing that he cannot feature in the January transfer market and that a referendum on his management will take place this year.
He arrived at the club and quickly established himself as the strong man in the decision-making room. Former manager
Flick has also been working on a solution, Sport says. His view on their difficulties is that more appearances against Atletico Madrid will put them on the right track, as he noted in his press conference afterwards. The downside of this was that in his opinion their defeats against Las Palmas and Leganes, also at home, were due to the attitude of his players – something that does not suit him.
Previously, players like Lionel Messi would have had the quality to win such games without necessarily performing, but Flick does not have that talent at his disposal. When they return, Flick will tell his players to be at their best regardless of their opponent, whether it's a big match or a minor one.
