Paulo Fonseca was delighted to see AC Milan overcome a string of absences and end their poor run of form with a 1-0 Serie A victory over Hellas Verona.
A second-half goal from Tijjani Reijnders secured a 1-0 win for Milan, who sit in seventh place after just their second win in six games.
Milan have now won their last eight games against Verona in Serie A – only against Siena (nine) have the Rossoneri won more consecutive games in the competition.
Fonseca's team had to do without the injured duo of Alvaro Morata and Christian Pulisic, while Theo Hernandez was once again limited to the role of substitute.
“The first half was somewhat inevitable, with so many players missing and not winning the most recent match, so we were slow,” Fonseca told DAZN after the match.
“Without so many players at the moment and our current form, I'm happy with the win, that was the most important thing.
“It was a well-deserved win, we kept a clean sheet and showed more stability in defence.”
Milan had 65% of the ball possession and scored just 0.81 expected goals (xG), but allowed only 0.68 to Verona at the other end.
Milan have won an away match in Serie A without setbacks for only the second time this season, after a 1-0 victory over Monza in early November.
“It's true that we didn't give Verona much and dominated possession, but without being aggressive in the final third,” Fonseca said.
“We made too many wrong decisions. That is also due to a lack of confidence. We had the ball so often close to the penalty area and should have done better.”
Fonseca said the injury suffered by Rafael Leao in the first half was not too serious despite the Portugal international limping.
“I spoke to Rafa, it doesn't seem to be anything special. It's nothing major,” Fonseca said.
