A former Arsenal star has questioned the captain of Martin Odegaard in Arsenal after their defeat of the Champions League by Paris Saint-Germain.
The Gunners, led by the midfielder, have not won another trophy this season, with that hope to end after their loss in Paris on Wednesday evening.
Elsewhere they were knockout of the Carabao Cup in the semi-final, while they suffered an earlier defeat by Manchester United in the FA Cup. Liverpool has already been crowned champion in the Premier League.
A number of fans and experts have had theories about why the Gunners failed for a different season, with injuries and a lack of natural, no. 9 that apparently contributes to their struggles.
Few, however, have questioned Odegaard. The Norwegian remains the most important maker on his part, but has struggled for shape since the return of injury earlier in this season.
Ex -arsenale defender Bacary Sagna, however, has claimed that Odegaard did not recently earned his place as a captain as a captain – although he would not want to take the bracelet from him.
“It's a difficult one because Martin Odegaard did not play well this season,” said Sagna, who played for the Gunners between 2007 and 2014, via The Mirror. 'Although there is sometimes more behind it. I don't care too much about personal situations, but his influence in the club will decrease.
“I don't think the problem is due to the captain. Captainincy is given to a player with good qualities and a strong personality. The way the games went – however, I don't think he's been [a strong enough leader]. He is not as efficient as before.
'If you play without number nine, it is much more difficult because the captain has to organize the game and often he is alone. There is no one to help for him. I would not remove Captainincy from him because he remains a top player. '
The Gunners will probably want to invest in the summer, which contributes to their team while they want to win to win their first Premier League title since 2004 or the very first Champions League title.
It was a hurt team after the PSG loss, Odegaard said after the game, because he admitted that the side of the side was not as a place in the final over their two semi-final legs.
“We tried well,” he said. “We started the game really well. We were on the front foot, had the momentum, a few big chances, but in the end it wasn't enough.
'We did well between the boxes, within the two over the two games that we were not good enough. Credit to their keeper who has made great saves. It wasn't enough and that is painful. '
