Portuguese full-back Joao Cancelo had a rollercoaster ride at Barcelona last season, joining from Manchester City in scintillating form but finishing the year as one of their weakest players. However, the experienced full-back would like to get a second chance at Barcelona.
Cancelo was scheduled to return to Barcelona last summer, and was waiting to see if a deal could be done. However, Sport explains that City were unwilling to accept another loan and Barcelona had no room in their salary cap.
The 30-year-old Cancelo is willing to do anything to return to Barcelona as it is the best place for his football. Sporting director Deco intended to bring him back to the club, but due to their salary cap issues he explored other options, including Almeria's Marc Pubill.
Deco and manager Hansi Flick would like to strengthen the full-back position next summer, but Deco would prefer to look for a younger full-back for the right side who is able to grow and make the position his own. Initially, they could provide cover for Jules Kounde, allowing him to get more rest and play centrally in defence.
