Chelsea legend John Terry believes that his old party needs some experience and has a way to do if they want to win the Premier League title.
Chelsea won a fourth placed finish and won the Europa Conference League in 2024-25 with the youngest team in the Premier League.
The side of Enzo Maresca has brought that fine shape to the new FIFA Club World Cup and they will be confronted with Champions League winners PSG in the final on Sunday.
Despite all of that, Terry does not think that the blues are quite ready to win the Premier League title soon, and notes that they need some older heads to get them over the line.
“We have a very good young team,” he said Talksport.
“I know the famous saying, you can't win anything with young players; you need a little experience. I think we just need a little experience, whether it is in the goal or that that is an old center-back, just to guide the players a bit on the field.
“In terms of talent and what the owners do, I love the idea of it. I am not sure if it will be and you will win the Premier League.
“I personally feel that Manchester City and Liverpool are probably too strong at the moment, but we can find out the back of (the Club World Cup) and start the season really well.”
Earlier this year, Terry argued that Chelsea was at least “a few years” removed from real title candidates.
“I think we are a few years off, I really do that,” he said in May. “I don't want it to be headline stuff, but I look at Man City, Liverpool – they are stronger. Arsenal has been consistent.
“Now we invite the press too often; other teams do it. Man City has a lot to answer, they are the best in it, but other teams try to do it and they can't. The fans are frustrated through time.
“We have succeeded in securing the fourth, good experience of the boys. Making signing sessions and attracting players is great next year.”
