A former championship football player is confronted with the prison after she was convicted of raping a drunk woman while she slept.
Oluwasanmi Odelusi, 31, who played for his retirement of Bolton Wanderers, MK Dons and Coventry City for Bolton Wanderers, MK Dons and Coventry City, the 27-year-old heard during her trip to London from the United States in November 2021, heard Snaresroook Court Court.
Charles Evans said the victim was attacked while she slept in her bed in an Airbnb after she met Odelusi and a friend on a night out.
Odelusi was found guilty by the jury by a ten to two majority and then released on conditional bail prior to his sentence in May.
'A sleeping person cannot give permission. It's so simple, “said Mr. Evans.
“It is not the crown's matter that the complainant was too stunned to give permission, but it is the crown of the crown that her intoxication certainly contributed to the circumstances that the defendant could rape the sleeping complainant.”
Odelusi denied the accusation and insisted that the victim was awake and agreed.
The public prosecutor told the court how the victim came into contact with Odelusi while Knappen in London in 2021.
“They stayed in a flat in Airbnb with three bedrooms in Shoreditch, Oost -Londen, and decided on the evening of Friday, November 26 to break,” said Mr. Evans. 'The complainant had a friend in London she wanted to meet, so they all went to the nightclub in Piccadilly.
'The complainant could not remember how many shots of tequila she had, but says she had quite a bit.
'They then went to the club in Piccadilly and arrived there for some time after midnight. More alcohol was consumed and the complainant felt drunk, but not to the point to struggle. '
One of the friends of the victim kissed Ryan Sellers, a friend of football player from Odelusi. They then invited the two men back to their accommodation. The victim said that her memory “let her down a bit” because of alcohol consumption and could not remember much of the taxi ride, but she could clearly remember the rape.
Odelusi had consensual sex with the friend of the victim after he was invited to her bed. After a while she asked him to stop what he did, the court heard. He then went to the victim's room and raped her at about 6 am.
She woke up and realized that someone had sex with her, but could not speak. Odelusi returned to the friend's room when the victim went asleep again, the court heard.
Mr Evans said that the victim woke up at 11 am and felt confused. She later told another girlfriend about the rape on the same day, the court was told.
The victim was interviewed by metropolitan police officers in the United States.
Defending Claire Cooper, the court said that the victim had shown interest in Odelusi in the taxi and had shown him her Instagram account and he complimented her photos, but they “did not add each other.”
She said: “He was shocked and surprised when he was asked to attend the police station.
“He worked with the police. He was not proud of himself after he had slept with both women, but his actions were not to someone who was guilty of rape. '
