The PFA pre-season program was rolled in his eighth week with a number of familiar faces that all participated in the training sessions in their efforts to find a new club, including a striker representing Liverpool and Chelsea
Former Chelsea and Liverpool striker Fabio Borini have again committed themselves to a large number of other players who are currently not affected while trying to find a new club. The Italian is a free agent since leaving the Italian side Sampdoria.
The veteran striker, 33, has joined the PFA for their highly acclaimed pre-season program with which professionals from contract can train and retain their condition in an attempt to earn a contract elsewhere. Training takes place in Champneys Springs and has been running since the start of the summer. Other names to participate his former Premier League defender Paul Dummett, former Chelsea man Jamal Blackman and midfielder Tom Davies.
Borini will certainly hope that he will do enough to attract the attention of interested clubs. The one -off Italy International started his senior career at Chelsea prior to Proverbs with Parma and Roma. He then returned to England with Liverpool in 2012, before moving to Sunderland. He then moved back to Italy and had spells with AC Milan and Hellas Verona.
The Italian yielded 35 goals in 75 performances for Turkish side Fatih Karagumruk prior to a move to Sampdoria. If he finds a new club after his enchantment with the PFA, he would follow in the footsteps of a few other former Premier League stars.
After his contributions, Borini's former AC Milan teammate Asmir Begovic was offered a contract by championship side Leicester. In his enchantment with the PFA, he said: “I think the low season is always a challenging time in certain ways. You take your rest and recover from the long season before and then start to prepare for the following season. Now without always knowing the date when you go back and when you have to be ready, it is quite difficult.
“What the PFA offers, especially with the setup they have, that makes it very easy for players to dive and dive and get coaching of top quality. So for me it was fun to be able to tap, play some time with the family, play other sports and stay busy.”
Colleague goalkeeper Angus Gunn also found a new club in Nottingham Forest who was trained with the PFA after his release by Norwich City. A number of famous faces started a similar program last year, including former Newcastle star Dwight Gayle and former Arsenal defender Carl Jenkinson. The program is set to run until 4 September.
