
Former Barcelona and Liverpool -midfielder Arthur Melo was robbed this week in the city center of the Catalan capital. The Brazilian midfielder is accompanied by Girona on loan from Juventus in the January transfer window.
The 28-year-old reportedly spent the afternoon in Barcelona and was shopping in the city after Girona training. While around 16:00 he paid for a ticket on a parking garage of Passeig de Gracia, Arthur was approached from behind and robbed in 'a matter of seconds' by two people, according to Diario ALS. One held his watch and the other waited for a motorcycle to sail the thief away. The Brazilian did not suffer any physical damage, but then went to the police station to submit a police report.
Arthur was back in Girona training this morning, but is the newest victim of the growing problem problem in Barcelona. Pickpockets are common in the Catalan capital, but in recent years there have been several cases of football players, in particular Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who was also violently attacked during the incident. It is not clear whether Arthur was the target because of his profile, or whether he was a random victim.
The On-Loan Juventus midfielder will prepare himself on Sunday for a crucial collision against Alaves, while Girona is trying to prevent him from being dragged into a relegation struggle. Arthur has presented in every match under Michel Sanchez since he made Getafe against Getafe in mid -February, with their last three games.
Arthur naturally spent three years in Barcelona when he signed for the Blaugrana in 2018 for € 31 million from Gremio. He would then move to Juventus for € 80.5 million in 2021, before Leen Proverbs in Liverpool, Fiorentina and now Girona. His next steps are not clear with two more years about his Juventus deal, and no sign that he is in the plans of the Bianconeri.
