Former Juve star Nico Hidalgo passes away after suffering lung cancer at 32

A former Spanish football player died at the age of 32 after ending a long battle with lung cancer.

Nico Hidalgo, who was once in the books of Juventus as a young person, played for various clubs in Spain, including Granada, Cadiz and Racing Santander.

Placing a sincere tribute to Hidalgo, a club statement by Cadiz read: 'Nico Hidalgo has left us.

'We will never forget your smile and your joy. Your struggle is our example. Rest in peace '.

A second tribute came in from one of his former clubs, Extremadura, who have now been lifted.

It stated: 'This morning we woke up with the sad news of the death of Nico Hidalgo, former Extremadura UD -football player, at the age of 32 because of lung cancer that he has been fighting since 2021.

'By [everyone at] CD Extremadura, we would like to express our deepest participation to his family and friends. We send them all our love and strength in these difficult times. '

Racing Santander also published a message on their official website, in which they said they would keep a minute of silence in tribute to Hidalgo for their Segunda División match at home on Elche on Sunday evening.

Hidalgo made 23 performances for Extremadura in their former form as Extremadura UD, before he racing to Cadiz and later.

The defender withdrew into playing in 2022 after he was established in his illness.
