Former Man United star claims Onana ‘hasn’t done enough’ to keep his No 1 spot

Andre Onana 'has not done enough to keep his place as no 1 of Manchester United next season and according to Ben Foster, the club has to buy a replacement.

Onana, who closed in a £ 47 million deal from Inter Milan in 2023, made a number of controversial and expensive mistakes during the last campaign and his future in Old Trafford has been questioned with the summer window open now.

United can indeed be open to allow him to leave before he brings a new first-choice stop, especially with backup Altay Bayindir who does not impress in the same way.

Cameronan Onana only held nine clean sheets in his 34 performances in the Premier League and gave 44 goals while the Red Devils stuttered to a 15th placed finish.

By adding fuel to the fire, recent reports have connected United with a Swoop for Aston Villa Keeper Emiliano Martinez – and Foster believes that the Argentinian is a must -buy.

Foster is his judgment on Onana apart from Talksport: 'It is a brutal competition, the Premier League, and I am thinking a bit [over] The last two seasons that he did not do enough to prove that he is a Manchester United No. 1.

'I think he has competence and, like so many other man United players, he would go somewhere else and probably bloom. I think that will probably be the case with him.

'If the chance comes to sign someone like an EMI Martinez, they have to go for it. He is still one of the best keepers in the world.

'Many people said this season, probably not the standard of the previous two years, but still one of the best keepers in the world.

'You must have a strong spine in every football team. If you get the goalkeeper, you get a few strikers in it, Bruno will stay now.

“It's a good start to the transfer window for them.”

According to Argentinian Outlet TYC Sports, United contacted Villa in January about a move for Martinez before he decided to keep confidence in Onana. It has also been reported that the Red Devils will be interested in Martinez if he leaves Villa this summer.

Martinez, 32, seems to be sold by Villa, who has to discharge a valued possession this month to meet the strict profit and sustainability rules of the top flight.

He was moved to tears after the last home game of Villa of the season – a 2-0 win against Tottenham – last month and seemed to say goodbye to supporters.

Martinez was then sent away in his last outing of the season after hurrying and Rasmus Hojlund clattered during Villa's defeat by United in Old Trafford.

Asked for his future for the upcoming qualifications of Argentina, Martinez said: 'I don't know, I come here to play for the national team, and that is the only thing that is important now. Do I want to move to a new club?

“The transfer window has just opened, so there is still a long way to go.”
