A former Star of Manchester United has received a conditional prison sentence of four months after he has been persuaded for 'dangerous driving'.
The incident took place in August when the player went on holiday to Monaco and visited two night clubs before he decided to find out of his Rolls Royce.
He was stopped by the police in the early hours of the morning and breathed, which returns an alcohol level of blood of 1.01 per milliliters, which exceeded the accepted limit in Monaco.
The Dutch footballer Memphis Depay was handed over by a court in Monaco on Wednesday and received a conditional punishment of four months and a fine of € 9,000 (£ 7,500) and a two -year driving ban in Monaco.
The 30 -year -old – who is now playing for Corinthians in Brazil after being released by Atletico Madrid last summer – gave an apology on Instagram after the sentence was delivered.
“I would like to apologize here,” Depay wrote. 'Last summer, during my vacation in Monaco, I made a mistake and decided to drive home after a drink in a restaurant. Instead I should have come in a taxi, but I didn't.
“That's why I want to apologize and take full responsibility for my actions. 2024 was a year of lessons and I will certainly learn from this.
“We will do better in 2025.”
Depay is a well -known name for United fans after playing for the club between 2015 and 2017.
He was signed by Louis van Gaal, only a year after the couple collaborated to help the Netherlands finish third in the 2014 World Cup.
Depay's stay in Manchester, however, was a miserable one because he only scored seven goals in 53 performances before he leaves after two years to become a member of Lyon.
Despite his own problems, Depay still won the FA Cup, Europa League and League Cup while he was in United.
Since then he has played for Barcelona and Atletico before leaving Spain to move to Brazil in September.
In 18 performances for Corinthians in all competitions, Depay scored seven goals.
