A former defender of Manchester United will complete a golf tournament in Thailand in Thailand later this year and later this year a large number of former Premier League stars.
The Icons series sees Westwood cooperating with a number of former English players to compete against the Spanish golf star Sergio Garcia and his world team during a competition in Bangkok.
Garcia will be accompanied by people like Ruud Gullit, Luis Figo, Gianfranco Zola, Gabriel Batistuta, Peter Schmeichel and another ex-sizing position in Nemanja Vidic.
However, one star who has not left the football field for long, Phil Jones, will stand in line next to some of his fellow teammates in Bangkok in the hope of being on Garcia in March.
Westwood and Jones will have John Terry, Phil Jagielka, Paul Scholes, Joe Hart and Theo Walcott by the hand while tracing the victory, as well as three Lions Legends of the 1990s Paul Ince and Teddy Sheringham.
In anticipation of his participation in March, Jones told The Mirror that, like many football players, he has long been a sharp golfer and has spent more time on the fairway in his retirement.
“I have always been a passionate golfer,” Jones revealed, after hung his boots forever in March 2024 after numerous problems with injuries.
'It is always something that I like to do in my spare time when you play football, but of course you don't get enough time to play golf.
'So, now, now I retire, it gave me a chance to play a little more. I love the game.
'I love everything. I love the competitive series that you can have with friends, and I played in a few pro-Ams after the career. You always get those little jitters and those little nerves before the start of a game, and I don't think there is something that can be related to that.
'I think I stand on the first tee for a few people on the first tee box, the nerves are starting to feel the same and come back a bit, which I like.
“I love those nerves and those feelings that you get for a game, and I think golf, especially in an environment such as the icons, will certainly give me that.”
The website of the Icons series tells how the tournament strives to put two 'legendary captains' against each other, supported by 24 of 'the most iconic' football players in the world.
Although Jones is supported by some huge names from the recent past of England, there is in particular one player who looks forward to seeing in action.
“I think Theo Walcott. I know he plays golf, but I didn't know he was as good as probably what he is. I have never played with him before, so he might be the surprise package for me, but I have heard that he is very good. '
'I played with Jags [Phil Jagielka]. I haven't played with Joe Hart yet, but I have to play on February 4 before we come out, so that will be interesting.
'I didn't play with Scholesy [Paul Scholes]But I remember a shot that he played in the bunker last year or something. I think he will be a good player.
'There is a good mix in it. I think JTs [ John Terry ] there too. I know he is big in his wave and has a very low handicap, so I think we have a good team. '
