Former Man Utd boss Ten Hag replaces Alonso at Leverkusen

Former Manchester United -Baas Erik ten Hag has been appointed as the new manager of Bayer Leverkusen, confirmed the Bundesliga club on Monday.

Ten Hag, who has not had any more management since he was fired by United in October, replaces Xabi Alonso, who left last week to join Real Madrid.

The Dutchman passed for a difficult two years at Old Trafford and won 72 of his 128 games that were in charge of all the competitions (D20 L36) in his two -year term of office.

Ten Hag, however, led to the EFL Cup in 2022-23 united before he achieved the FA Cup a season later with a victory over Rivals Manchester City in the final.

But the 55-year-old was replaced last November by Ruben Amorim with the club in the 14th in the Premier League table.

His most successful Stint came to Ajax, whom he coached for four years, won three Eredivisie titles and brought the club to the Semi Finales of Champions League in 2019.

Under Alonso, Leverkusen insured a domestic double in the 2023-24 season, which raised their first Bundesliga title without losing a match.

They also took care of the DFB-Pokal title and reached the Europa League final, where they were beaten 3-0 by Atalanta.

Ten Hag was linked to a return to Ajax before he took a deal with Leverkusen, and he is pleased to get started with this year's runners-up.

“Bayer 04 are one of the best clubs in Germany and also among the top clubs in Europe,” Ten Hag said the official website of Leverkusen.

“The club offers excellent conditions. I am very impressed by the discussions about management.

“I came to Leverkusen to continue with the ambition that has been shown in recent years.

“It is an attractive challenge to set up something together in this period of change and to develop an ambitious team.”
