Former Man United -star Nani has claimed that the club missed an 'incredible' player in Geovany Quenda, who has since sealed a move to Chelsea.
Earlier this month, Chelsea completed the signing sessions of Sporting Lisbon Youngsters Quenda and Dario Essugo in a deal of £ 62.4 million – with the relocation of Quenda that cost £ 43.7 million.
Man United had investigated a deal for Quenda, who turned 18 in April and previously played under their now head coach Ruben Amorim at Sporting.
However, the Red Devils did not act fast enough and the talented teenager has since sealed a move to the Rivals Chelsea of United.
Now the former Red Devils wing player Nani has offered his thoughts about the situation and he insisted that Man United missed a 'fantastic' player.
In an interview with a Bola he said: 'There is a child at Sporting, Quenda, who is 17 years old and he is incredible.
“He has energy, he has speed, he can improve his physical ability, but he is a very intelligent player. Very adult.
'He knows how to play as part of a team when he has to calm down and speed up the game.
“Of course he can improve his finish and be more consistent, because he also shoots very well, knows how to dribble, he is skinny, but he is a fantastic player and has the right posture.”
Nani was then specifically asked if he had the feeling that United missed by not signing Quenda.
He replied: 'I think so. There are no players like him at the age of 17. Why did Chelsea sign him? Because they know that.
'It is difficult to have these kinds of players who are aggressive with the ball, to bring the game forward and to create danger in the box.
'And when he sees that there is no room to take risks, he knows how to calm down and play with the team. He is really a fantastic player '.
After having spent time in the Youth Academy of Rivals' Benfica, Quenda will enter Sporting at Sporting at the age of 13.
Amorim immediately reserved Quenda for his potential, and he became the youngest player ever who represents the reserve team of Sporting at the age of 16.
At the start of the current campaign, Quenda was integrated into the first team of Sporting, where Amorim was enthusiastic about his performance on the right wing after having made an impression in a pre-season-friendly.
“He is very talented, very mature and understands the game as an adult,” Amorim told Sporting TV in July.
“He clearly has much to improve, but I think he had an excellent game and we have a player there.”
In total, Quenda made 45 performances and recorded three goals and six assists at that time.
