Former Man Utd star lands first manager job as he takes charge of Huddersfield

A former Manchester United star has been appointed as the new manager of a League One club.

It is the first time that the former player has adopted a management job.

He has previous experience with working as an assistant coach and will now want to test in management.

The club ended the season with a temporary coach who was in charge after they had fired their previous manager in March.

The new boss had a long gaming career in which he was mainly seen in the championship.

He announced his retirement to play three years ago.

Huddersfield has appointed former goalkeeper Lee Grant as their new manager.

Grant, 42, has signed a three -year deal with the terriers after the League One Club corresponded to the compensation with Ipswich, where he worked as an assistant to head coach Kieran McKenna.

Huddersfield fired previous boss Michael Duff in March and had fired former Captain Jon Worthington in temporary indictment.

The Terriers said: 'We are pleased to confirm that Lee Grant has been appointed manager of Huddersfield Town today, who joined the club with a three-year contract prior to the 2025-26 season.

'Grant is allowed a release to add with immediate effect of the city after the conclusion of the Premier League campaign of 2024-25 after a compensation agreement had been agreed.

“Lee will be accompanied in the club by his own coaching team, with full details that have to be shared in due course.”

Grant retired as a player in 2022 after a 22-year career, which made more than 500 professional performances, including spells on Derby, Sheffield Wednesday and Burnley.

He joined Ipswich as an assistant coach after hung up his gloves and helped the club win back-to-back promotions to the Premier League in successive seasons.

Grant added: 'This is an exciting time to become a member of the club and there is so much potential and opportunity for us in the future, and I could no longer be motivated to play my bit on that journey.

“I want to thank Chairman Kevin Nagle and CEO Jake Edwards for giving their trust, and I hope to repay that with the times when we move forward the summer and season.”

Grant was in United between 2018 and 2022 and made only two performances for the club.

He played against his former club Derby in the League Cup in 2018 and was also involved against Astana in the Europa League in 2019.
