Former Manchester United winger eyed by MLS side in ambitious move

Zaha is reportedly a target for Charlotte FC, who finished fifth in the Eastern Conference in 2024.

As we enter the final days of January, several MLS teams are actively looking to improve their rosters ahead of the new season. Charlotte FC is one of those teams that, after a solid campaign that saw them finish in fifth place, are looking to go one step further in 2025.

As such, many names have been linked to the North Carolina squad, with the newest player causing a stir among the fanbase. According to Tom Bogert of GiveMeSport, Wilfried Zaha is in discussions with the club about a loan deal from his current team Galatasaray.

The player, who is currently on loan at French side Olympique Lyonnais, will be recalled and sent to the United States as a Designated Player if the deal goes through.

Zaha's disappointing record this season

The 32-year-old has made four appearances so far this season and is yet to score a goal or assist. His only contribution in front of goal came in the form of an assist in the Europa League, against Olympiacos. For the last two matches of the competition, played in November and December, Zaha failed to make the squad. He was not included in Lyon's squad in 8 of the 14 matches he was available for and has not made the bench for more than three weeks.

After making a name for himself at Crystal Palace, Zaha made a big move to Manchester United in 2013, where he made just two appearances in one season. He moved back to Palace permanently in 2015 and went on to make more than 200 appearances for London.

Born in Ivory Coast, Zaha made two appearances for England before declaring his allegiance to his home country, where he has made more than 30 appearances since 2017.

Last season in the MLS, Charlotte FC made it to the Playoffs, but ultimately lost to Orlando FC; after two draws, with the Florida team equalizing in heartbreaking fashion after twelve minutes of extra time (0-0, 1-1), they fell short on penalties.
