Ligue 1 would suffer enormously without the Qataris, according to the former striker of Paris Saint-Germain Nicolas Anelka, who believes that their involvement was good for the French top flight.
“If Qatar decided to leave, it would be very bad for the French league, which is already in trouble. It is up to them to ask themselves the question. Why so much stubbornness with Qatar and Nasser al-Khelafi because that is not the solution,” said the former Euro 2000 champions with Franke to RMC Sport.
Since the arrival of QS1 in 2011, PSG has dominated French football and won 10 Ligue 1 -Titels, Zeven Coupé de France trophies and 11 Trofée des champions.
Although they have won nothing on the European stage since the arrival of Al-Khelaifi, Les Parisiens once ended up as UEFA Champions League two (2020) and the semi-final on three separate occasions.
They are currently in the quarterfinals of that competition with a match against Aston Villa that is coming. Anelka also points out that the club has made a lot of investments in a new training center lately.
Although he acknowledges the kind of power that Al-Khelaifi has for Anelka, it is normal for others to worry about things, but he believes it is par for the course when your club has the biggest budget in France and you are the president of that team.
He added that the power of Al-Khelaifi is not so different from the term of office of Jean-Michel Aulas in Olympique Lyonnais in the early 2000s and the term of office of Bernard Tapie in the 1980s and 90s in Olympique de Marseille.
Aulas saw Lyon Seven Ligue 1 titles win in the 2000s, and in 2008 the club was the 13th most valuable football team, according to Forbes, with the magazine appreciated them at € 383 million.
The Marseille team of Tapie was littered with stars and high-end talent that won four French top crowns in the late 1980s and early 90s.
OM also made two Champions League finals and became the only French side that cancel the trophy when it was known in 1993 as the European Cup.
