
Former Tottenham Hotspur defender Jan Vertonghen has confirmed that he will retire from professional football at the end of the 2024-25 season.
Vertonghen, who now plays in his home country for Anderlcht, is limited to only five performances in all matches after Achilles and ankle problems.
The 37-year-old retired in July in July and ended his career in Belgium as the creator of the Red Devils of all time with 157 caps for his country.
Vertonghen started his career at Eredivisie side Ajax before completing a move to Spurs in 2012 and would spend eight years in North Londen.
The defender appeared 315 performances for the club in all competitions and scored 14 times and twice mentioned in the PFA Premier League Team of the Year.
He was also a key figure in the Mauricio Pochettino team that reached the Champions League final in 2019, a match that she lost 2-0 to Liverpool in Madrid.

After his enchantment with Spurs, Vertonghen joined Benfica for a three -year -old deal before signing a free transfer with different attachment in 2022 after his previous contract had ended.
Vertonghen mentioned an inability to prepare themselves correctly for games as a key to his decision, and will hang his boots after the last league match of the Sidder Effect of the season against Genk.
“I have noticed that it is becoming increasingly difficult to physically prepare myself for training sessions and competitions and to show myself as the player I want to be,” he said.
“Not only against the fans and my fellow players, but also to myself. That's why I will stop after this season.”
