Randy Couture thinks Stipe Miocic can beat Jon Jones
While many are writing off Stipe Miocic in his title fight against Jon Jones, Randy Couture is adamant that the icon still has a lot left in the tank.
Having climbed the heavyweight mountain himself, the gifted wrestler has found several flaws in the argument that this is a one-sided fight.
First of all, having won the title himself at the age of 44 and it will be contested tonight, he doesn't believe Miocic is too old.
Secondly, using his analytical skills, he has discovered something that the greatest heavyweight of all time can do to push 'Bones' into the trenches.
Sheesh: Jake Paul and Mike Tyson have both been suspended from boxing
In an exclusive interview with Bloody Elbow, Couture said: “I still love the fight. I think Stipe Miocic still has a lot of fight left in him. I'm not one to put numbers on anyone. Stipe is more than capable of controlling himself. Jon Jones also hasn't fought in two years.
“So if you want to talk about cage rust and who's gone over the top and is on their way down, you can make a case for one of these guys.
“But they are both great athletes. They will be in top form and bring their A-games, and it will be an interesting battle.
“I think Jon Jones might need to use some of his wrestling skills. He gets away with not using as much. But Miocic will definitely challenge him and force him to use his wrestling skills. That will be interesting.”
Randy Couture gives a surprising choice for the greatest fighter of the modern era
When asked who is the best fighter of the moment, most choose Jones, Alex Pereira or Islam Makhachev.
However, Couture isn't convinced any of these guys are number one.
In reality, the icon claims that two other men are much more deserving of that distinction, with some interesting analysis to back it up.
