Karate Combat 55 was about one man, who defeated three opponents on the same night to overcome.
Even after his UFC debut there were concerns about the MMA career of Robelis Despaigne because of his specialized skills.
Although he was not cut out for a long run in the Octagon, after he had only participated three times, the striking specialist has excited in karate fights since then.
The former Olympic Taekwondo -competent for Cuba got an impressive series of knockouts since leaving the UFC, including the fastest finish in the history of the promotion.
His last outing saw Despaigne earn a heavyweight title shot after he came from the top at the top of the 'Last Man Standing' tournament.
Robelis Despaigne broke his both hands and broke different toes during 'Last Man Standing' victory
At Karate Combat 55, Robelis Despaigne defeated three opponents, including two former UFC hunters, to win the 'Last Man Standing Tournament'.
He was tested more than in his three earlier outings in the promotion, which is not surprising in view of the fact that the longest for which he had compete was only 12 seconds before July 18.
Despaigne even went to the score cards for the first time in his opening round matchup with former glory kick boxer Saulo Cavalari.
The Cubaan would always be the favorite to win the tournament and after he passed Cavalari, he completed MMA veterans Tim Johnson and Zac Pauga to earn a heavyweight title shot.
Unfortunately, as expected with a One-Night tournament, Despaigne has suffered a number of injuries that can keep him a considerable amount of time away from the competition.
He posted a video on his Instagram page and even without his words being translated, it is easy to see the damage caused.
When sharing the video on their own platforms, Karate Combat wrote that Despaigne broke both hands and broke several toes.
The former UFC hunter thanked the promotion when thinking about his victories.
“Thank goodness, to @president.Awesome @karatecombat, for the chance and [I’m] Thankful for the support of my team, my friends and followers. Soon I will come back and remember 'don't touch me'. “
Robelis Despaigne faces another former UFC hunter who has been one of the biggest surprises in karate fights
When Robelis Despaigne dismantled Josh Parisian in just 18 seconds during his Octagon debut on UFC 299, no one could have expected what would wait less than a year and a half later.
His tournament victory sets up the devastating Finisher for a heavyweight title shot against Karate Combat Champion and 24-Fight UFC veteran, Sam Alvey.
Alvey was not particularly known for his striking during his MMA career, but after the end of his UFC run without a victory in his last nine performances, he performed incredibly well in karate fights.
'Smilin' Sam may have revived in his career in this Rules network, but in Despaigne he is by far by far his most discouraging task.
