If Les Bleus beat Croatia and qualify for the Nations League Final Four, France will not be the showpiece of the tournament next June. According to a report on Wednesday from Le Figaro, UEFA has rejected the French Football Federation's bid to host the European bid. This is a blow to FA president Philippe Diallo, who is currently looking to continue his mandate as head of French football. France planned to host the semi-finals, the third-place play-offs and the 2024-2025 Nations League final in the Greater Paris region, with the matches at Parc des Princes and Stade de France.
However, UEFA reportedly rejected France's bid in favor of Germany or Italy. Die Mannschaft and La Squadra will battle it out in the quarter-finals next March, with the winning country confirmed as hosts of the Final Four. Le Figaro adds that UEFA's choice casts doubt on France's international weight. That said, the last European final in Saint-Denis – the 2022 Champions League final – proved disastrous for France, UEFA as well as for the fans of Liverpool and Real Madrid.
