France secure date with Spain in Nations League

Thanks to their penalty shootout victory over Croatia in the Stade de France on Sunday (2-0, AGG. 2-2, pens 6-4), France has set up a semi-final meeting against Spain, a repeat of the Euro 2024 semi-final.

Les Bleus went to the second stage in Paris with 2-0 to Croatia, but they recovered parity thanks to goals from Michael Olise and Ousmane Dembélé in a normal time. France dominated but could not score the goal that would send them, neither in a normal time nor in extra time.

Mike Maignan, however, proved the hero in the shoot-out, which saves two penalties before Dayot Upamecano stepped to take the decisive spot kick. Spain also needed fines to get past the Netherlands. Donyell Malen was the one who sent La Roja to the last four.

The ruling Nations League champions will therefore meet France in Stuttgart on 5 June with a place in the final for grabbing.
