Olivier Giroud, the top goalscorer of France, and Los Angeles FC have mutually agreed to separate, the MLS club announced on Friday.
The 38-year-old striker, who came from AC Milan to Lafc in May 2024, will play his last game for the team against Vancouver on Sunday.
“Olivier has been an exemplary professional during his time at Lafc,” said Team Co-President and general manager John Thorrington. “He brought humility and a winning mentality that helps everyone around him.”
Giroud is strongly connected to a move to Ligue 1 Club Lille, according to various media reports in France.
Giroud helped Lafc reach the 2024 Leagues Cup final, where he scored his first goal for the club. He also scored in the 2024 US Open Cup final, so Lafc would win the trophy for the first time.
“I want to thank all fans, my teammates and the staff of Lafc for making this a pleasant stop in my career,” Giroud said. “I am happy that I played a role in the success of Lafc.”
Giroud has scored nearly 300 goals in more than 700 club competitions and won large trophies at Montpellier, Arsenal, Chelsea and AC Milan.
The World Cup winner 2018 leads the score cards of France of all time with 57 goals.
