The French football club with a lower League Versailles quickly rubbed all the suggestions they could be in the mix for Cristiano Ronaldo.
Ronaldo's Al-Nassr contract ends at the end of the current season, which gives rise to speculation about what could come. The 40-year-old could still extend his stay at the Saudi club, while a return to European club football remains a possibility with the World Cup for a little more than a year away.
There have also been some more unexpected links, with one parody account that suggests on social media that FC Versailles could be the next destination of the veteran. With the club that is currently fighting against relegation of the French third layer, it was certainly a curious choice – and one that the most fans had as the joke it was.
Versailles itself played – to a certain extent. The club published a press release with the name of Ronaldo, but those who were treated by clicking to a simple message of five words. “Are you stupid or what?” It reads.
Fans enjoyed the post, where someone encouraged the club to “give the community manager a wage increase”. Another wrote: “The cm is a genius, I didn't expect that”.
The answer from Versailles comes only a few weeks after Ronaldo focused on French football and claimed that the Saudi Pro League was stronger than Ligue 1. The comments made disagreement of the former French international Adil Rami, who claimed Ronaldo “” Talks S ** *.
“You want me to show you images of the defenders in Saudi Aarabia. It is not because he has had a crazy career that as soon as he says something, it is the truth. I think it's a PR stunt. We have Defenders, they are machines!
Roberto de Zerbi, manager of Ligue 1 High-Flyers Marseille, also disagreed with Ronaldo. “It is a stronger competition than people outside of France think,” said the former boss of Brighton.
Ronaldo is the top scorer of Saudi Pro League in the 2024-25 season, finding 16 times the net in 18 performances and has 65 goals in so many matches since he moved to Al-Nassr. However, the Club, established in Riyad, has had to win a league title since its arrival halfway through the 2022-23 campaign, and they are currently eight points on drift from the League leaders Al-Eittihad.
