From Trent Alexander-Arnold is expected to join Real Madrid in the summer transfer window, despite the fact that Liverpool makes frequent attempts to give him a new contract this season
Liverpool was desperate to hold Trent Alexander-Arnold and rejected an £ 21 million from Real Madrid during their last push to have him sign a new contract. Alexander-Arnold, 26, has decided to join the Spanish giants with a free transfer this summer after his current deal ends on 30 June.
It is understood that Real is finalizing their contract offer that the Liverpool star is expected to sign. The future of Alexander-Arnold has been an important point of conversation in the Reds season in addition to that of fellow contract stars Mo Salah and Virgil van Dijk.
His future was put into the spotlight at the end of December, when Chiefs Madrid achieved a formal approach because of their good relationship with Liverpool. Carlo Ancelotti hoped to bring in Alexander-Arnold after right back Dani Carvajal sustained a cruciate ligament injury in October.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reports that Real's offer was worth € 25 million (£ 21 million), but Liverpool rejected the plane. The Reds did not want to lose the Alexander-Arnold mid-season, with the possibility that an unprecedented Treble was still alive.
Liverpool is said to have made several attempts to have the 26-year-old extended his contract, with negotiations on a new long-term deal from October and continuing until January. But Anfield Chiefs have now resigned from the fact that he wants to move to Madrid and participate in the 15-way Champions League winners.
Arne Slot is not expected to speak publicly about the future of Alexander-Arnold until next Tuesday when he will view the Merseyside Derby. The international of England is currently injured, so the visit of Everton on Wednesday can come too early.
Alexander-Arnold will probably be unhappy about the nature of his departure the next time he steps on Anfield, with Liverpool fans. His refusal to sign a new contract means that he will run his boy's club with a free transfer, although that does not make the Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher upset.
“I'm not angry that he's going for free,” said Carragher, speaking on the stick to the football podcast. “In an ideal world, Liverpool would get £ 70 million or £ 80 million to invest again, but you can't go both sides as a supporter. If Liverpool signed someone for free in the summer, we would all be happy, so that means that his former club should absolutely hate him?

“The heat comes between now and the end of the season, and perhaps for the following year or so when he is in Madrid, but I really appreciate what Trent did for Liverpool.”
