Darwin Nunez continues to be associated with a move to Saudi Aarabia with one of the Pro League clubs that are interested in him, making them clear that they are ready to do business this summer
Al Hilal Chief Executive Esteve Calzada has said that the club focuses on “the biggest players” in the transfer window in the midst of interest in Darwin Nunez in Liverpool – but he has warned that they should see the wish in star names before agreeing to sign them.
Liverpool would be willing to accept an offer in the £ 50 million region to sell Nunez this summer – just a few months after they rejected a lucrative proposal for the Saudi Aarabia striker.
Nunez, 25, is expected to leave Anfield after a disappointing campaign for the goal for the newly beaten Premier League champions. And there have already been discussions about a possible relocation, according to reports elsewhere.
But if Hilal strives for a deal for the Uruguayan striker in the coming weeks, Calzada has made it clear that they are not just throwing away money because of it.
“We focus on the biggest players,” said Calzada, who is currently in the United States for the club World Cup, to BBC Sport “We are very ambitious, but we have to see the player hunger and the transaction must train both ways.
“The only thing we have tried to remember players and agents is that yes, we come from Saudi, but we do not print notes here!
“My role as CEO is to ensure that we run the club efficiently, so that we can have the biggest budget to have large players, but not free of charge.
“That is why we sometimes run away from negotiations, because we still want players to want to come extremely and are not just looking for the money.”
Calzada also responded to suggestions that his club was interested in a loan agreement in the short term for Cristiano Ronaldo van Al Nassr, so that he could appear at the new and controversial competition of Gianni Infantino. But Calzada rubbed the idea of the Portugal star who participated in the largest rivals of his club.
He added: “As much as I respect Ronaldo as a huge player, as we all recognize that he is, it is certainly completely counter-intuition that you take the biggest player of your biggest opponent to play with you. Even more if it is just three to four weeks.
“We have tried to see if we can strengthen the team. But some players were with a mindset of 'vacations already', some players sometimes just asked for too much money and we are aware that our team is extremely competitive.
“We are still going to the traditional transfer window after the tournament with the greatest ambitions to see if we can strengthen the team even more.”
