Frimpong completes Liverpool medical ahead of summer move from Bayer Leverkusen

Liverpool can almost be concluded a deal to sign Jeremie Frimpong from Bayer Leverkusen, where the player is completed on Monday.

The 24-year-old, whose release clause is € 35 million (£ 29.5 million), has told Bayer Leverkusen that he wants to leave the Bundesliga Club and Liverpool's release clause.

Liverpool boss Arne Slot aims at the right back, which can also play as a winger.

The Netherlands International was an important member of the Leverkusen team who won the German Domestic Double last season.

Celtic has a sales clause that can be worth around £ 5 million.

Leverkusen signed Frimpong from Celtic in a deal with a value of a maximum of £ 11.5 million in January 2021.

Frimpong moved from the Academy of Manchester City to Celtic in September 2019 for £ 300,000.

Sky Sports News had previously reported that the defender would be happy to move to Anfield if the club decided to sign a right back to replace Trent Alexander-Arnold this summer.

Alexander-Arnold has announced that he will leave the club when his contract ends on 30 June.

Conor Bradley, 21, ends the season as the first choice of Liverpool while they plan the future without Alexander-Arnold.

Lock: It's hard to strengthen our team

With the Premier League title three weeks ago it has already started with the speculation about where Liverpool will strengthen their team in preparation for a renewed challenge of the will of Manchester City and Arsenal.

Prior to Monday's game with Brighton, Live on Sky Sports, Slot said that adding their ranks would be difficult – and admitted that he should also find a way to keep happy fringe players who hardly played this season.

“I have often said that as a club we are very happy with the players we have,” he said.

“Part of it is our decision, but in some situations players who haven't played much don't look forward to another season that doesn't play much.

“So there is always a continuous process and we must ensure that we are prepared if we can strengthen the team.

“But it's hard to strengthen this team. There is a reason why we won the competition – because we have so many great players.

“It is a continuous process that we are talking about. I think this club has shown so often in the past that they will make the right decisions.

“And this season we made the right decision not to get a player at all – except Federico Chiesa [for £10m] – And that worked very well. “

Analysis: how Frimpong Alexander-Arnold could replace in Liverpool

Sky Sports' Peter Smith:

“Trent Alexander -Arnold and Jeremie Frimpong are among the top players in their positions in world football – but they are very different players with very different styles. If Liverpool were to sign the Dutchman this summer, he could transform their attacking game plan.

“While Alexander-Arnold is known for his range, so that his teammates are put in dangerous positions with his balls in the box of Crossfield deliveries, Frimpong is running out of his team with his running and wearing the ball.

“The statistics illustrate the point, with the comparison between the balls and take-on of the two players in the past two seasons remarkable. Alexander-Arnold made 16 to balls in this period, only two.

“That difference can also be seen in the heat in the pair of the couple. While Alexander -Arnold often does a lot of his work in deeper areas – and that is a characteristic of Arne Slot's tactics this term, with its full -backs that sometimes stay back – Frimpong seems to receive the ball or in advanced areas.

“Of course Frimpong played as a right wing for Xabi Alonso at Leverkusen and was able to weigh from that higher position with a considerable number of goals and assists.

“What should he be to adjust his role in Liverpool is an interesting question? Mohamed Salah has spoken this season about how Slot released him from many defensive tasks. So if Frimpong would encounter those right -wing areas, Salah could drive a more central role?

“With Alexander-Arnold, Liverpool has to adjust. And Frimpong would offer them the opportunity to play in a different way while they want to defend their Premier League crown next season.”
