Fulham 2-0 Bristol City: Raul Jimenez scores as Marco Silva’s Whites reach Carabao Cup third round

Raul Jimenez ensured that Fulham avoided a Carabao Cup shock when they sent the Side Bristol City 2-0 championship.

Mexico -striker Jimenez under pressure George Tanner under pressure to score an early goal and then took the second while the cottagers drove through it.

Baas Marco Silva was previously stabbed by the city in the competition, when they played his top-flight Watford side with a 3-2 result in the same stage eight years ago.

So he mentioned a strong starting XI despite the application of nine changes on the side that traveled 1-1 with Manchester United on Sunday.

Two of the players prepared, Adama Traore and Jimenez, combined to put Fulham forward after seven minutes.

Timothy Castagne broke the ball forward to Traore, who checked him with his shoulder as he rinsed Robins Wing-back Ross Mccrorie.

The Volleyed Cross of Traore arrested against Jimenez, but unhappy city substitute Tanner stretched from one leg to make the block and only succeeded in poking the ball in his own net.

Jimenez himself came to the score sheet 13 minutes later when he could control Harrison's near-post corner, turning and Lash Harrison drove.

Silva is frustrated by a lack of new faces during the transfer window, after so far he has made only one signing, the 34-year-old backup goalkeeper Benjamin Lecomte.

The Frenchman got a debut against City, but he had little to do in the first half, except to pick the ball from the net when Anis Mehmeti drove past him, just to be paralyzed.

After the break, Traore burst a few times on the right and forced a sharp near-post-saving of the city goalkeeper Joe Lumley with his first attempt.

With his second, however, he tanned the ball in the same part of the Hammersmith end where United Captain Bruno Fernandes had skied his penalty three days earlier.

So far, the city has been unbeaten in the championship this season and produced the most striking result of the opening weekend, a 4-1 victory at Sheffield United.

But despite a lot of sniffing and puffing, they never really threatened an upset in West, with Fally Mayulu's header – which floated wide – closest to the scorers.

That was until a late flurry in stop time when the ball fell to Mayulu 15 meters and he crashed a low ride past Lecomte and against the base of the distant pole.
