Former Arsenal and Chelsea defender William Gallas believe that Arsenal cannot be considered the top club of London in recent years, because both Chelsea and Tottenham have abolished trophies.
“Pardon? The No.1 Club van London? Sorry, but Arsenal has not been the number 1 club in London in recent years. What has Arsenal won in recent years? Extraely nothing.
“How many trophies have they picked up? Zero.
“So you can't claim that Arsenal is the top club in London.
“Okay, they have finished for the second place for three consecutive seasons, but that means nothing. They have won nothing! If Arsenal fans think they are the number 1 club of London, frankly are laughed at. Chelsea fans are laughing at you. Spurs -fans laughs at you.
“You know why? Because those two clubs have won trophies, and Arsenal did not end up. Arsenal finished second. End of discussion. There is no prize for second place.
“Sure, they did finish above Chelsea and Spurs, but those clubs lifted trophies; they won silverware. Some people will say the Conference League is a small competition and Chelsea should've won it anyway, but by doing so, they became the first club in the world to win every major European Trophy.
“Arsenal won a European trophy last season? Arsenal -fans may not like it that I say this and maybe criticize and so on, but let me tell you one thing: for professional football players, the only thing that matters is what trophies you win. It's as simple as that.
“If you ask the players of Arsenal if they would exchange their season with Spurs or Chelsea, they will say no diplomatic no, but believe me, those players will be jealous not to have felt what it is like to lift a trophy. Arsenal fans may not be nice that I want this, but the simple fact is no London's number.
