Garcia Pimienta sacked by Sevilla after fourth straight defeat

Sevilla has announced the departure of head coach Javier Garcia Pimienta, two days after they had a fourth straight competition against Valencia to be 13th in LaLiga and only seven points free from the drop.

“Sevilla wants to thank Garcia Pimienta for his work during these months, and his professionalism, who wants him the best happiness in future efforts,” the club said in a statement.

The 50-year-old Spaniard came to the club in July 2024 for a two-year deal, to replace Quique Sanchez Flores.

He had previously led Las Palmas to promotion in 2022-23, before he held them last campaign in Laliga.

But he is unable to replicate this success with the seven-fold Europa League champions, but only winning once in their last seven league matches and the most important 'El Gran Derbi' lost 2-1 to Real Betis in March.

According to reports in the Spanish media, veteran coach Joaquin Caparros will take over as an interim head coach for the rest of the 2024-25 campaign.

The 69-year-old is considered a safe pair of hands, which previously managed the Andalusian club between 2000 and 2005 and two consecutive spells as a caretaker, in 2018 and 2019.

The next test by Sevilla will be against Deportivo Alaves on Sunday 20 April in the Estadio Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan.
