The future of Ange Postecoglou as head coach of Tottenham Hotspur is far from certain, even though he led the club to their first major trophy in 17 years in the Europa League
Gareth Bale has encouraged Tottenham's hierarchy to make a quick decision about the future of Ange Postecoglou after the first major trophy of the club in 17 years. Spurs also achieved the qualification of Champions League after beating Manchester United in the Europa League final in Bilbao.
Brennan Johnson scored a filthy goal just before half -time, and it turned out to be the only goal because United was frustrated by a chased defensive representation from the side of Postecoglou. Despite the termination of the silver drought, the term of office of the Australians is dressed in uncertainty after a terrible Premier League campaign, with suggestions that he could still be fired this summer.
Speaking at TNT Sports after the game, Tottenham icon Bale expressed his excitement for the first time in the club's victory and said: “It was a long time ago and I am absolutely happy with the club.
“All fans, the number of years they have been waiting, and I think they will celebrate these with a lot of alcohol.”
Bale focuses on the position of Postecoglou and wants to see a decision that will be made soon. He said, “I only think the chairman [Daniel Levy] Can decide that. There is so much talk, whether he is going or whether he does not.
“I think it will be interesting to see now because he has won a trophy and he is the first Tottenham manager who does that in a long time. I think the board has a number of decisions. They support him if they don't and they have to do it soon.”
When asked about his personal attitude on Postecoglou, Bale added: “I love the football that he plays. Of course he misses a bit of a plan B, but tonight shows that there is a plan B.
“He showed a different side how he played, so I think that as a manager, if he matures as a manager and brings that kind of defensive side to his teams. Yes of course he can bring success.”
Postecoglou himself spoke the rumors about his potential departure after the triumph. The former Celtic boss said: “That decision is not in my hands. It has no influence on me.
“If it influenced me, you would have seen it in the structure here. The only thing I gave was this thing [the medal]. You know, having this thing around my neck means that this football club has won a trophy. “
“I said that and I don't feel that I have still completed the job. We are still building. The moment I have accepted the role that I had one thing in my head and that is to win something, more than whatever. We have done that now and I want to build on it.”
Daniel Levy, who has had to deal with criticism from fans for the shortage of the club's success, was present at the final. He was two seats away from the co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe from United.
