Gareth Southgate issues update on his future in football over a year after exit

Gareth Southgate has given an update about his future in football and admits that he 'enjoys life' after his exit in England.

Southgate, 54, has not returned to management since leaving the hotseat of England after Euro 2024 last July, with his three lion's side who lost 2-1 with 2-1 to Champions Spain in the final.

During his term of office as an English boss, Southgate brought a revolution into the culture of the national team and the country led to both European finals and a semi -final of the World Cup.

Despite his relative success at the Three Lions rudder, he still has to return to the Dugout and instead aimed at interests away from the football field.

In an interview with Daily Mail Sport during the PFA Awards Gala 2025 on Tuesday evening, Southgate revealed that he has no plans to return to football in the near future.

“At the moment I am very enjoying my life,” said the former boss of England in a relaxed way.

'I have some business interests, I am writing a book, I do some work on leadership, I still do some work with young coaches and I try to help where I can do with the crisis we have around young men. I try to put some things on it. I also have time to enjoy my life and yes, I enjoy my life. '

England, who has appointed Thomas Tuchel as the successor to Southgate last fall, will look to go better among the German manager by triumphing during the World Cup 2026 in the United States.

The tournament will mark 60 years since the last major triumph in England in the men's game – the World Cup 1966.

Asked if he would follow Tuchel's three lions with interest next summer, Southgate added: 'I am clearly excited – it is a world cup. But it is very important that I will stay out of all this. '

England has struggled for consistency in the early stages of Tuchel's regime, with 3-1 lost to Senegal and only managing a 1-0 win over Minnows Andorra in a world cup qualification.

The three lions are still on top of League B Group 2 with five wins and a defeat of six games, level at points with Greece.

During Tuesday's award ceremony, Southgate was honored with the 2025 PFA order of merit for his services to football, while Liverpool -Superster Mohamed Salah claimed that the Player of the Year Prize of the Event claimed the Player of the Year event of the event.
