Gary Neville insisted that Danny Welbeck would be perfect for Man United after he played in Brighton's victory over Chelsea.
The former side of Neville is getting away in the lower half of the Premier League table, after having ended a mixed form of shape since the arrival of Ruben Amorim in November.
Although some recent results, especially in Europe, have given United Hope on a change, goals continue to find.
United has managed only 28 league goals this season, six less than relegation-threatened wolves, with only four teams that have scored less.
With both Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee who struggled to find the net, Neville insisted that United should have looked to reduce Academy Welbeck to Old Trafford.
Welbeck was instrumental on Friday when Fabian Hurzeler's side records a 3-0 win over the Blues on the Amex.
After the game, Neville insisted that a shouting from a Welbeck's quality player united in their forward line.
“He was released too quickly at United,” said Neville on Sky Sports.
'If you think of Louis van Gaal, his playing style is very precise, now Danny Welbeck was not exactly in his game at the time, so he (Van Gaal) just let him go. He didn't like him at all.
'But he is actually perfect for how Manchester United should play. Threatening space behind, playing for players. This idea that he is not good enough for Manchester United is absolutely nonsense. '
Neville added that Welbeck's experience would make him an ideal addition to offer offensive depth at Old Trafford.
'He is good enough to be at United in a pool of three or four strikers. For example, Liverpool has three, four, five forward players on their forward line. They are all different skills and different types.
'Salah is the striking one, but you can go back to Gakpo and others who are not as good as Salah – they all contribute at some point in the season. Divock Origi did it in Liverpool.
'I saw Nicolas Jackson talking in Chelsea last season as not good enough [but] He is good enough to play in Chelsea, perhaps if they had another striker at the front to get the weight of his shoulders. He would be one of the two very good strikers at the club.
“We always tag these players,” oh, he's not good enough, “but he (Welbeck) is, to be part of a team of 20 people in a top club. He can still play at the highest level, he destroys defenses.
“He's from Torn Colwill and Chalobah to Shreds tonight. That front four, he was part of it – a large part of it. '
Erik ten Hag would have been interested in signing Welbeck last summer, while he looked at his attacking options in the club prior to his third season.
However, the transfer did not end up, with Zirkzee the only attacker to arrive in Old Trafford during the window.
