Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher question Matthijs de Ligt

Former Manchester United defender Gary Neville questioned Matthijs de Ligt's actions in the incident that led to a Liverpool penalty against the Red Devils.

Ruben Amorim's side improved greatly in their clash against the league leaders and took a shock lead just after half-time.

But the Reds responded with Cody Gakpo's goal before they had a chance to take the lead from the spot. Referee Michael Oliver pointed for a penalty after an assessment on the field after De Ligt's handball.

And Neville wondered why the Dutch defender had his hands in a raised position in the first place.

“I think he could get into trouble,” he told Sky Sports. “If your arm is up there. If your arm is that high in the box, you're asking for big trouble. I don't know why his hand is there.

“That's the one you're not going to get away with and he's not going to get away with it.”

Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher, who also commented on the match, agreed, adding: “He's actually turning away.”

Salah stepped up to put the home side ahead in a match that saw them extend their lead at the top to eight points after draws between Arsenal and Chelsea on Saturday.
