Gary Neville gives verdict on Man Utd’s £133.5m summer transfer spending

Legend Gary Neville, Manchester United

Gary Neville greeted the transfer company of Manchester United this summer, but warned that there are still two problem areas that they should strengthen. United has spent greatly on Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo, who look out about £ 133.5 million on the two attackers.

United struggled for goals last season, with only Everton and the three degraded parties that manage fewer Premier League goals than their 44. But the additions of Cunha and Mbeumo should offer an important boost after they have played 35 between them.

Marcus Rashford also became a member of Barcelona on loan after being frozen by manager Ruben Amorim, who also likes to discharge random people from Alejandro Garnacho, Jadon Sancho, Antony and Tyrell Malacia after he had considered them excess for the requirements.

And Neville believes that the movements of United so far are a good sign for the following season – although he would like to see the club sign a new keeper and a new striker before the transfer window is closed.

“Manchester United has accepted a function for the past ten or 11 years where they have made mistakes in the transfer market or in recruitment or they have held players for too long,” Neville told Sky Sports.

“It seems that what is happening now, Ruben Amorim is the identification of players he does not want in the team and he moves them outside. That is positive and on paper I love the signing sessions of Cunha and Mbeumo.

“Why do I like them? They have Premier League experience, they look more like Manchester United styles of players with a little more pace and strength and the physicality to get from box to box quickly.

“I think if you look at Garnacho, Sancho and Antony, are more Jinkers, more people who work in tight spaces. I have always had the feeling that United players needs to open their legs and can stretch real teams and I think Cunha and Mbeumo do that.

“The other that I like about those two signing sessions is that they have not yet proven themselves at the highest level with regard to Premier League club -level or European club level, so they really have to be desperate and hungry to prove themselves on a huge stage, that is Old Trafford.

“That hunger has not always been there with players who have come to the club in the last ten years. They may have been the more completed article and we are enthusiastic about them, but perhaps they have not had that despair.

“I always have the feeling that a player needs hunger, they need despair in the game to feel that this is the most important thing and I think these two boys who have signed will have that. I think the two signing sessions are good signing sessions.

“A few more is needed. I think they need a keeper and a center and if they can fill those two positions with decent signing sessions, then United can have … I mean, they have to have a better season than last year. It can't get worse.”
