Gary Neville makes Man Utd transfer demand as he identifies big Amorim issue

Gary Neville has urged Ruben Amorim to oversee a “cultural overhaul” at Manchester United, insisting the majority of the current squad are “not good enough”.

United are currently 13th in the Premier League and have managed just six wins from 17 games so far this season. Amorim has a big job on his hands after replacing Erik ten Hag and Neville wants him to be ruthless in the transfer market.

Amorim appears to have already decided that Marcus Rashford's time at Old Trafford is over, having left him out of United's last three games, and he could be one of the players moving on in the January transfer window .

“He sees what Manchester United fans have been looking at for the last 10 years. There needs to be a cultural change,” Neville told Sky Sports. “It's a very torrid time, there's not much to say about the performance levels or the way they're playing.

“They are all guys who are trying their best, it's not a personal attack, but they are not good enough to play for Manchester United because this club wants to be at the top. The same as Arsenal, Liverpool, Manchester City, Chelsea – those clubs strive to be top, but you have to get there.

“It's very clear when you look at these players, they are not good enough.” Amorim has used 24 players in charge in his first nine games and Neville believes this is a “huge positive” as he has now seen the majority of his squad in action and can make informed decisions on who to keep .

“I think it's a huge positive for Amorim to see what he's got,” Neville added. “There have been times in the past when you could be fooled into thinking you have a better group of players because of good results and rising in the league.

“But they are a mile away in every way. By playing the way Amorim wants to play, with the 3-4-3, he will have to change it. He has given everyone a chance by rotating the team and I don't think there must be many that he looked at and thought 'yeah, I want you on the bus'.

“They're all very mediocre, and I don't know why. They're better than what they show, let's be clear. But it's a pattern.”
