Gary Neville hit out at Kyle Walker after tensions threatened to boil over during the first half of Sunday's Manchester derby.
With both sides desperate for bragging rights during difficult periods, it was Man City who drew first blood at the Etihad as Josko Gvardiol's header from a corner put the hosts ahead.
As United hunted for an equalizer, Walker appeared to trip United striker Rasmus Hojlund, who responded by beating the England international.
The pair collided before the city leader fell to the ground and appeared to have been hit.
However, replays showed that there had in fact been little contact, leading Gary Neville to claim that Walker would be ashamed of his behavior if he saw the incident again.
Both men were booked for their involvement in the incident.
Neville went on to compare the incident to his encounter with former City midfielder Steve McManaman during an FA Cup match in 2004.
“I did this in a derby against McManaman many years ago and got sent off for it,” Neville said. “What matters is whether he has brought forward that rock of his mind.
“Walker pushed him over and tripped him. I'm not sure, no. It's bad of Walker, the first contact he doesn't respond to. He'll be a bit ashamed when he sees that again.'
Lord Alan Sugar also weighed in on the incident, accusing the England international of 'acting'.
He wrote on X: “Walker went down like he was hit by a train. He should get a red card for acting.”
At half-time, Roy Keane did not mince words with his analysis of Walker's actions.
“Walker should be ashamed of himself going down like that,” Keane said. 'Look here. I don't know that man and I'm ashamed of him.'
