Gasperini bemoans VAR decisions in Torino stalemate

Gian Piero Gasperini criticized some of the referee decisions, which, according to him, cost an important victory in the Serie A..

Atalanta concluded a chance from the penalty spot in the second half, with Torino Bergamo left with a 1-1 draw after Guillermo Maripan had canceled the opener of Berat Djimsiti.

Vanja Milinkovic-Savic Saved Mateo Retegui's 74th-minute effort from 12 meters, while Raoul Bellanova saw a goal not to be allowed for handball, a decision that frustrated Gasperini.

It means that Atalanta has now signed four of their last six games in the Serie A (W1 L1), as much as they had included in their previous 36 trips in the competition together.

In addition to the non -accessible goal, Gaskerini also thought they should have had a penalty.

“There are episodes such as the penalty that is not given and the goal of Bellanova, they weigh because they are VAR decisions,” Gasperini told reporters.

“Today more than a bit of us has taken away. We have to understand who separates football matches, whether it is on the field or that at the VAR.

“We have to concentrate on VAR, because WHO referees on the field do not count anymore.”

“The only mistake we made was the mistake on their main goal. Then, beyond the Torino defense is not that easy, we missed something.”

Atalanta was without wounded ahead of breathola lookman and goalkeeper Marco Carnesecchi had to replace the warm-up before the game. However, Gianluca Scamacca made his first appearance of the season and came up as a late replacement.

The striker, who tore his front cruciate ligament in a pre-season-friendly, seemed to struggle after replacing Retegui by going five minutes to go.

“Unfortunately, Scamacca had to stop. After a minute he had a quadriceps problem, a pity because he has done tests and tests for a few weeks,” Gasperini added.

“Let's hope it's not something that can stop him.”
