‘Genuis’ Arteta has Arsenal ready for PSG test, says Lewis-Skelly

Myles Lewis-Skell believes that Arsenal is ready for the challenge to make Paris Saint-Germain in the semi-final of the Champions League thanks to their “brilliant” boss Mikel Arteta.

Arsenal welcomed PSG in the Emirates Stadium in the first stage on Tuesday in what their first Champions League Final Four collision has been against Manchester United since 2009.

This year, the Arteta team impressed this year's competition and is unbeaten in their last eight games, and only manages a longer series in 2005-06 (12), when they reached the final.

The Gunners have already confronted this year with the recently crowned Ligue 1 champions in the competition, with Bukayo Saka and Kai Havertz who sealed a 2-0 win in October.

This will be the sixth meeting between the two teams in Europe, where the Gunners are unbeaten about their previous five games against the French side (W2 D3).

Lewis-Skelly has enjoyed a breakthrough year in North London, making 36 performances in all competitions, including eight trips in the Champions League.

And although the 18-year-old recognized the difficulty of Luis Enrique's side, he looked forward to the prospect of possibly another memorable night in the Emirates.

“As a team we are prepared and we are ready,” Lewis-Skelly told Sky Sports. “We are currently in good shape and we are pleased to play PSG because they are also in good shape.

“It will be a good challenge for us because they are in good shape and have a full team. There are no apologies in the game. We are ready.”

Lewis-Skelly's confidence is largely due to Arteta, in which the Spaniard has won 29 of his 46 Champions League matches that are in charge of the Gunners (D8 L9).

The teenager praised the thoroughness of Arteta and insisted that there is so much to learn from his manager and said: “His attention to detail is incredible.

“I like to learn, so learning him and the way he treats and approaches the games, it's fascinating. There is so much that I can take it from him. He really is a genius.”

The rise of Lewis-Skelly in the first team in Arsenal has seen him in a defensive role, which operated as a left back due to injury problems on the back for the Gunners.

The international of England came through Arsenal's Academy as a midfielder, but said that his transition to a new position was a pleasant one.

“It has been a smooth process because I like to learn, and I love to improve,” he said.

“That aim to learn and grow every day. I like to ask questions. If I don't know the answer yet, I will ask the question.

“It was a smooth process for me because of course I am a midfielder of trade, but the position was not unnatural for me. I enjoyed it.”
