Germany captain ‘in talks’ with Real Madrid over surprise summer transfer

Kimmich is reportedly open to a move to Real Madrid this summer when his contract with Bayern expires.

Alphonso Davies, who had long been rumored to be on Real Madrid's radar, now appears closer than ever to signing a contract extension with Bayern Munich. However, the German club's star making headlines as a potential addition to Real Madrid's squad is none other than Joshua Kimmich.

According to German newspaper Bild, the German national team captain has already been in talks with representatives of the reigning Champions League title holders and is reportedly open to swapping Bavaria for the Spanish capital.

Kimmich's current contract with Bayern expires this summer, and negotiations with the Munich club have yet to reach an agreement. The news about his future emerges at a turbulent time for Bayern, following an embarrassing 3-0 defeat in Rotterdam.

Kimmich tempted by the prospect of going to Real Madrid

According to Bild's report, Kimmich finds the prospect of joining Real Madrid very attractive, especially given the club's consistent push for the Champions League title. While Bayern remain in talks with their star midfielder, Kimmich reportedly views the move to Madrid as a “serious and very attractive” opportunity. His interest is partly driven by the hole left in Real's midfield following the retirement of Toni Kroos.

Kimmich has previously expressed his admiration for the Spanish giants. Ahead of the Champions League semi-final between Bayern and Real Madrid last season, the 29-year-old midfielder gave an interview to Bild in which he praised Real Madrid's remarkable Champions League history.

“Every time you see Madrid in the Champions League you see their incredible mentality and quality,” Kimmich noted. “They have a strong team, a lot of talent, but also a lot of experience. You feel that, especially in the big games.”

Reflecting on Bayern's games against Madrid, Kimmich added: “You feel their experience and their unique connection with the Champions League. Six years ago they reversed the tie after losing both legs despite my goals. They always manage to switch games in the last moments. It's about quality, but also about mentality – and they have both. We know it is an incredibly strong team.”

As Kimmich weighs his options, Real Madrid fans may have reason to hope that the midfield maestro will soon don the iconic white jersey. Meanwhile, Bayern Munich face a critical moment as they look to keep one of their most influential players.
